Esther, you are joy from the crown of my head to my toes and everywhere in between. I'm going through something more serious - my BP really is off the roof (afib) and I see the cardiologist tomorrow morning (monday) about valve-repair surgery. But your advice, both physically and mentally, is sound and good and true...and oh, so encouraging! I pray for you constantly, adore you, and feel spirit companionship via your transparent and blessed way of conveying the good, the bad, the ugly, the necessary...in a way my mind, heart, and soul need to hear. Love you, Esther 🙌🏻✝️🫶🏻

You are so lovely, my friend. And will be holding space and praying for your time at the doctor tomorrow. And thank you so much for always your encouragement. It means the world to me.

Health issues bring up so much. I have been sensing this tension that you describe between obedience and inner authority, thought I have been framing it as freedom and partnership. In my framework, partnership would be allowing your doctor to influence you and trusting them It’s not so much about freedom finally winning, but holding the tension in love. Which sounds like exactly where you arrived. It’s just a slightly different framework for describing how I think about it.

I love your framework. Based on my own childhood with high-control religion, and always bowing to outer authority, it's so necessary for me to claim my own inner authority and then sit with the tension of the BOTH AND. And not land in all or nothing thinking. "Holding the tension in and with love" is where I want to always be.

I think all of us come to the tension from different points on the spectrum, with tendencies around ways of protecting ourselves that either lean toward freedom or partnership. As a young person I leaned heavily toward freedom. No one could tell me anything! I was wild.

I don’t think I've ever heard the words structure and breath together like that. It's easy to want to resist structure because we fear it will condtrict our room to breathe. But seeing those words together makes me think of the ribcage as the structure that protects our lungs so we can breathe. A very different and helpful image.

Thanks.
